Prestige Auto Armor - Clear Bra FAQ's

Please remember that this is Paint Protection, not Paint Perfection:

Does this mean that Prestige Auto Armor does not take the utmost care in making your clear bra as invisible as possible?  Not at all. It is what "our" reputation is based on & that of which we are most proud!  However, just like a beautiful sparkling diamond, if you examine it close enough for imperfections, you will most likely find them.  There may be minute flaws in the film, or a spec of dust or fuzz that found its way in, flaws in the paint that you didn't notice previously, or limitations with installation due to pattern design(s).  We have, on many occasions during installation, removed the flawed or contaminated film and started over, but it still does not mean that any installation will be absolutely perfect. We are sure you will appreciate our high attention to detail and we, in turn, appreciate your reasonableness.

Please have your car as clean as possible before arriving for installation:

Unless we are also providing a detail service, then out of respect and courtesy please wash your vehicle before arriving.  This gives you a good up close and personal visual of being able to notice any paint chips, dings, dents, scrapes, or damage that can be pointed out to us when you arrive so that we can notate these.  If your vehicle is absolutely filthy when you arrive, there will be an up charge for the extensive time and attention required which can be physically exhausting.  We understand that your vehicle will pick up dirt while driving to our shop so we will do the proper prep and final cleaning which is required.  This includes a hand wash, clay bar of the areas that the film is only being applied too, etc... before installing the film.  But common courtesy on your part is greatly appreciated.  THE CLEANER YOUR CAR BEFORE

If we are providing the detail / cleaning / polishing service for you, then it is our responsibility to take care of this.  If we are not, then please make sure the job is fully completed before arriving.

Do you offer detailing as a service:

We can also detail your vehicle for an added service if you would like.  Hand wash, clay bar, polish, interior, engine bay, wheels / tires, wheel wells, windows, etc... Pricing is dependent upon how much time is required / involved and or the level of detailing service that you are looking for.

Please do not wax or coat your car between now and the appointment:

You can wax right over the film and paint after installation, but doing so prior to installation makes it more time consuming for the film to properly adhere directly to the paint.  If you are having your vehicle professionally detailed before hand, hold off on the wax or coating job and have this completed after the PPF film is applied.  We can also do this after film installation if desired for an added on service.

Please examine closely the areas that will be protected for any existing rock chips or issues with the paint:

If these need corrected before applying the film, please do so.  If there are just a few chips that need touched up, please provide touch up paint so they can be filled in before installing the film.  If there are many chips that need touching up, we do not want to spend 1/2 the day doing this, so please take care of this yourself.  If touch up paint isn't applied to the chipped areas before the install, then after the installation it will be too late to touch these areas (if any) up.

If your car has recently been repainted:

Please note that it is recommended to let the paint cure for a minimum of 30 days prior to installing paint protection film.  Gases from the paint need to escape fully before being trapped between the surface of the vehicle and the paint protection film.  As a result, if the paint is not fully cured, over time, the film may discolor or the adhesive on the film may fail.  During or after the installation, if the clearbra film would need to be removed for any reason and paint or clear coat lifts from the vehicles surface, under no circumstances will we be held responsible and the warranty of the product and installation will be voided on the affected area(s).

Try to avoid:

Between now and your installation appointment, in order to reduce the likelihood of acquiring more chips in your paint, please avoid highway driving, aggressive driving, and tailgating to minimize the risk of stone chip damage.

After installation:

It is highly recommended for your vehicle to not be driven for at least 12 hours.  Please make sure that you can avoid driving the vehicle until 12 hours has passed.  Do not wash or wax the vehicle until after 48 hrs has passed.  Do not press down on any moisture bubbles, this will interrupt curing.  Proper curing has to occur and any surface agitation or interruption from hand pressure can disrupt this process.  Usually the vehicle is kept overnight after installation at our facility so at the time of pickup the 12 hour period has passed and the vehicle is safe to drive.

Keep your car out of the sun:

After the installation occurs, please keep your car in a garage, or shaded area for the curing process to fully complete. Keeping the surface of the vehicle cool is best.  Since we install the film using an installation gel, this is highly recommended.  If the gel underneath the film gets too hot before it dries out, it could result in small bubbles that may, or may not go away.  Some installers use typical soap and iso alcohol for installations. When using soap and iso keeping your car in the sun is OK, but since were using a gel, again, keep it cool.

Care Instructions

Congratulations on your purchase and installation of Paint Protection Film.  This film is made up of a polyurethane material topped with an actual automotive clear-coat layer to exhibit a paint-like gloss and to also stay protected against elements and chemicals that are known to cause staining or yellowing with other film brands.  It requires special care and maintenance in order to maintain its glossy finish, overall look, and performance. Due to the true automotive top clear coat on this film, it has grown a wonderful reputation to not stain and or discolor.  But like everything, the more you take care of something, the longer it lasts.  If the instructions outlined below are followed, then the film will better keep its like new appearance. The following items must be considered when cleaning and maintaining the paint protection film.

After installation / curing time:

After installation, you may see water, gel and or soap bubbles, or moisture under the film.  This is normal and will go away once the film has fully cured (up to 45 days). During the curing time, it is important to not press or touch these areas.  This may cause the film to not cure properly to the surface of the vehicle. So don’t touch!!!!

Keep your vehicle in a cool shaded area such as a garage at minimum for 12hrs.  Since an installation gel is mostly used during the installation process, the gel needs time to fully dry out without being exposed to direct sun light and or direct heat.  If this is not allowed, then the uncured moisture from the gel might create a small blister like appearance under the film.  If you notice this, the blisters should cure away over time once the gel cools down again. But keep it cool and you’ll have no problems.

Keep water away from the car (washing and rain) for 48 hours.  Remember, we want all moisture to dry out from the edges during this time.  We do not want to create moisture that doesn’t allow for proper drying and or curing.

Do not wash or wax the car during the 48 hour curing period.  Applying pressure to the surface of the installed film can interrupt the curing process. After 48 hours is up, feel free to wash and wax at your leisure.

Care and Maintenance:

The following listed below applies to XPEL Ultimate Self-Healing Paint Protection Film

  • Wait 48 hours after installation to wash your car
  • Remove insects or other stains as soon as possible with bug and tar remover
  • Stubborn stains can be removed with 99% isopropyl alcohol or lacquer thinner. Take care to keep these chemicals off the vehicle’s paint.
  • Seal with XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant at least once every month to preserve the high gloss surface.
  • Light scratches in the film will self-heal in 20-30 minutes at room temperature. In colder conditions, or to accelerate the process, pour warm water (120°F) over the affected area.
  • Dust and clean the film regularly to prevent dirt build up around the edges.
  • Use a liquid-based car wash soap, extra-soft wash-mit, and water to wash your Paint Protection Film.
  • Wipe down or dry with a clean and dust-free soft micro-fiber drying towel.
  • Use a soft detailing cloth to softly remove any wax build-up around the edges.

Do Not Do the Following:

  • Do not use any clay products to clean the surface of your film. If the clay catches a certain way and lifts the film, your warranty will be voided.
  • Do not use a high-speed power buffer or polishing equipment, you can burn the film by doing this.  This will void your warranty.
  • Do not use a high-pressure washer. There is no guarantee that the film will not lift if you catch the films edge when doing this.  This will void your warranty.
  • Do not pick the Paint Protection Film's edges. Once the material is lifted it will not lay back down properly without damage. This will void your warranty.
  • Stay away from automotive cleaning or waxing products that contain "Petroleum Distillates".  This will break down all polyurethane products over time causing more damage and limiting the longevity of the clearbra.  This will void your warranty.

The following products have been tested as safe for use on all Paint Protection Films:
